Gmail becomes desi Mail by adding 5 Indian languages to its option. Gmail currently support five Indian languages — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam as per the official release. All the Indian Origin Gmail Users can see the Link to the Official release right beside the email address at upper right of the inbox, shown in the image below :

You all would be very very excited to know, how to infact enable this feature in gmail. Yes you need to enable it as it is a Gmail Lab feature, on the trial basis. The process is very very simple :

Set up Gmail in Indian Language :

• Go to Setting on the upper right of inbox.
• Click the Setting Link
• Go to General Tab
• Click First Option of “Show All Languages”
• Under it, Check All Ticks
• Gmail Reloads and you have Gmail in Indian Languages.

After Enabling the Gmail Indian Languages option in the Setting Page, When you click on the Compose Mail link, you would see the drop down language option for all the 5 Indian languages, right in the compose option itself. The technology used by the Gmail is also available for Orkut, Blogger and other Google Indian Services.

Tip : You can Toggle between English and Indian Language with Hot Key Ctrl + g

When you click the Indian languages icon, you can type words the way they sound in English and Gmail will automatically convert the word to its Indian local language equivalent. For example, if a Hindi speaker types “namaste” we will transliterate this to “नमस्ते.” Similarly, “vanakkam” in Tamil will become “வணக்கம். Google’s transliteration technology is behind this new Indian Languague feature for Indian Gmail Users.
