Solution : Double Click on Any Folder / Drive Opens Search


“Double clicking on any folder or drive icon on  My Computer /Windows  it opens the search page / windows search folder rather then opening the respective folder or drive” I recently came across the problem of double click search in my windows vista, i took nearly 4 to 6 hours searching into the google and finding the solution. But you don’t have to search for long, as here is the simple cause and solution of problem of opening search folder on double click in windows icons.

Cause  :

It might be mainly due to virus named “PET32.exe” have affected your computer or some other virus corrupted your windows regitry.

Solution :

We need to repair your registry via windows shell which have been corrupted due to the virus. To repair registry follow below steps for folders opening search windows :

  • Open Start – Run
  • Type “Regedit”
  • Press Enter
  • Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
  • Double click to edit this entry
  • Set the Value to None instead of 1 or any other.

If your driver icons are opening search window, follow this steps :

  • Open Start – Run
  • Type “regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
  • DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in Shell32.dll succeeded Message would pop up
