Quick & Easy Access to IMP & Recent Documents | Microsoft Office


Most of the extensive users of Excel application, open too many excel files in their day’s work, and most of the times it is the same file several times which you need to open for a reference or for a regular updates. In Office 2007, when you click on Office button on top left, My resent document shown list of all the recently open files. Normally, when a new files are opened, older are wiped out of the My recent document list, But, you can modify My Resent Document in Office Application to get a Quick & Easy Access to all the Important Files, in other words, Stick / Pin Important Files in My Recent Document list so that they are not wiped out

Change the Number of Resent Documents to Display :

When i first opened My Resent Document list display setting, it was showing “17″ it is the default number from the Microsoft, you can change the number up to “50″ but i suppose you need really a bigger screen to see all of them, so changed to go for “25″ Resent Documents. Follow the below steps to change number recent documents to show under office button :

Recent Document

  • Click the Office Button, then click the Excel Options button
  • Click the Advanced category, drill down
  • In the Display section, change the number for Show this number of Recent Documents from 17 to 25 in my case.
  • Click OK, to close the Excel Options window.

For Excel 2003 User,

  • On the Tools menu, click Options.
  • On the General tab, change the number for the Recently Used File List.
  • Click OK, to close the Option dialog box.

Clear & Build New Resent Document List :

  • Change the Number in Display Section to Zero
  • Click OK, which would clear all the resent document list.
  • Change again the number to 25 in Display section
  • Now start using Excel, New List would be updated.

Pin / Stick Important & Frequent Used Files for Easy Access :

  • Click on the Office button to My Resent Document
  • On Left of the Recent document files, Notice a Pin Icon (Check Out 15 Amazing Office Icon Sets)
  • Click on the Pin Icon of respective File, which you don’t want to get wiped out
  • The Pin Icon change to Green instead of default.
  • The Documents with Green Pin icon would not be wiped out, even you open 1000 new files.
  • Use this feature for Quick & Easy access to frequently opened document.

Stick Pin Recent Document
Above, Tips would decrease the time you go and find the important files into the folders frequently. It would create a one point excess to all your important files in various office application like Excel, Work & PowerPoint.
