Mozilla Lauches Thunderbird 3 RC 1 for Developers & Beta Users


One of the best email client on the open source platform is Thunderbird 3, which is based on the Gecko 1.9.1.5 platform including some major improvement in the performance, stability & web compatibility in total of 100 & more changes from Thunderbird 2. Mozilla have mentioned in their Official announcement about Thunderbird 3, that it is for the beta users & developers who are interested in the testing new version as there are many known issues & some of the add-ons would be not working properly with Thunderbird 3.

New Features of Thunderbird 3 RC 1 :

  • New Search with Advanced Filtering Tools
  • New Global Search Field with Auto complete
  • New Mail Account Setup Wizard
  • Redesigned Mail Toolbar
  • Tabbed Email Messages
  • Smart Folders
  • New Message Summary View
  • Column Headings, Message Archive & Activity Manager
  • New Add-ons Manager
  • Improved Address Book & Gmail Integration
  • Thunderbird 3 is now integrated with Vista search, for Vista Users
  • Thunderbird 3 is now integrated with Spotlight, for Mac Users
  • IMAP Folder Synchronization

If you want to uninstall the Thunderbird 3, it would not delete your Email, they are stored in the profile folder.

Location of Profile Folder for Mozilla Thunderbird 3 RC 1 :

  • Windows Vista : Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
  • Windows XP : Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Thunderbird
  • Mac OS X : ~/Library/Thunderbird
  • Linux : ~/.thunderbird

Testers can download Thunderbird 3.0 Release Candidate builds for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux in 49 different languages. Developers should also read the Thunderbird 3.0 for Developers article on the Mozilla Developer Center.
