Independence Day : 15th Aug, 1947
- It is Celebrated on 15th Aug, Every Year.
- India achieved independence from colonial rule on August 15, 1947.
- August 15 is, therefore, celebrated every year as the anniversary of our Independence Day.
- The day is a national holiday in India.
- The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts.
- In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development.
- With the decision by Britain to withdraw from the Indian subcontinent, the Congress Party and Muslim League agreed in June 1947 to a partition of India along religious lines. - After attaining independence, a Constituent Assembly was set up to draft a constitution for the country. This constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, when India became a Republic. January 26 is, therefore, celebrated as the anniversary of India’s Republic Day.
- The Republic Day is an occasion to project India’s strengths, its cultural heritage and its sense of unity in diversity.
- 26th January 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state.
- The Republic Day of India is a national holiday of India to mark the adoption of the Constitution of India and the transition of India from a British Dominion to a republic on January 26, 1950.
