Create Windows Hibernate Shortcut for Quick Shutdown

Using Hibernate function is one of the most effective way to save energy / power while using computer / laptop, which enables the users to shutdown their system quickly & via-a- versa. You can save power on your laptop via turning off screen, previously  we have posted 5 freeware to turn your laptop screen on / off with just click of a button. Creating Hibernate shortcut on to your desktop / Quick launch, you can turn your system off really fast with just click of a button. Hibernation helps you to shutdown your computer without any loss of the data and removing waiting time for all the programs to close. The Major benefit of the Hibernation includes the quick resuming without loss of the programs / data.

While your system is in Hibernation, Windows saves all your memory data, which it requires to resume on to the system file known as hiberfil.sys. Windows allows the user to create a shortcut for a Hibernation using nifty or so called shutdown process. Lets see the steps to create a Hibernation shortcut to your desktop for quick shutdown without loss of the data.

Steps to Create a Hibernate Shortcut on Desktop / Quick Launch :

  1. Right Click on Desktop, Choose New / Shortcut
  2. New Shortcut Wizard pop’s out.
  3. Type “shutdown /h” without quotes and remember to live space before slash and no space after slash.
  4. Provide a Name to your Shortcut, I prefer labeling it as “Hibernate”
  5. Your new Shortcut is ready to use on Desktop. Wait, Wait
  6. Right Click on newly created shortcut, select properties to change icon, which is similar to something like shutdown or power on / off.
  7. Pick an appropriate icon for the shortcut and double-click it
  8. Optional Step : Assign Hot key to New Hibernate Shortcut. I prefer to have Ctrl+H, which would be easy to remember, via clicking inside the shortcut key box & press the key combination mentioned above.
  9. Click OK to Finish
  10. All New Hibernate Shortcut Key is ready to use.
  11. Optional Step : Right Click, Choose Send to Quick Launch to send Hibernate Shortcut to Quick launch Area.
  12. Open some program, Click Hibernate Icon to have a try.
  13. I am sure, you would love it, to resume push the power button of your laptop or PC, all your programs are as it is when you Hibernated.
  14. Enjoy., Never shutdown only Hibernate.

Hope, this helps you to shutdown quickly when your are in hurry or need to save some energy / heating up of laptop via Hibernate shortcut icon right on to your desktop.
