How to Create & Format Hard Drive Partition | Vista & Windows 7

Yesterday, I planned to have a new partition for dual boot on my pre-installed Dell Laptop with Vista Premium to install Windows 7. Vista & Windows 7 have a preloaded Utilities which would take care of all the type of Partition problem for a User, unlike the XP where you would require a third party software to have a Partition on to your PC. Without wasting much of the time, its time to list down the simple steps for Vista Partition, Here you go.,

Steps to Make New Partition in Vista / Windows 7

  1. Open Start Menu / Control Panel
  2. Click on “Create & Format Hard Drive Partition” Under Administrative Tools Heading
  3. Click “Continue” on the UCA Popup Window.
  4. Choose Disk Management within the Computer Management Console to view Existing Partitions.
  5. Vista Disk Management Console

  6. Right Click on the Partition, you want to further divide into two.
  7. Choose “Shrink Volume” to free up space for your new partition.
  8. Enter the amount of Space you want to shrink into new partition upto the available shrink size mentioned.
  9. Shrink Details Step 7

  10. This creates the Unallocated Space on your Hard drive.
  11. Now, Right Click on the Unallocated Space, choose “New Simple Volume”
  12. Create New Simple Volume Step 9

  13. Format the new partition as NTFS and give it a name.
  14. Format Vista Partition Step 10

  15. Your newly created Partition is visible under “My Computer” in Windows

Hope, this would help you create a new partition on to your hard drive on Vista / Windows 7. Before I post about Dual Windows Booting System, have you download your copy of the Windows 7 Suite from Official Direct Download links, if not go get it now. Next to Follow is the Dual installation of the Windows 7 with Vista on Dell Inspiron 1525 (My Laptop Model).
