Top 10 Common, Avoidable Resume Mistakes

“First Impression is the Last” do apply for your Resume sent to the Recruiters or posted on the Job site. How to avoid common resume mistake, which might cost you dream job ? A good first impression is all the opportunity your resume gets to ensure you are chosen over hundreds of job applicants. Personally, I am not the HR consult but, I personally feel most common mistakes even the most discerning candidates make, while writing their resume. Why don’t you check out below common, avoidable resume mistakes, and add to it if you think some more are to be added., to make resume more prefect.

Avoidable resume mistakes :

Don’t make the recruiter guess - A lot of applicants are passed over because their resume lacks an ‘objective statement’ and the recruiter is forced to figure out what is your career goal.
Aesthetic appeal – Make a great ‘first impression’. Do not use fancy, non-traditional, or illegibly small fonts. Stay clear of excessive use of bold or underlining features, and omit abbreviations, or acronyms popular only in your company. If it’s not appealing, it will not be read. Long paragraph style writing – Use Bullet points instead of the long paragraph & make it sure your bullet points are no longer then 2 lines.
Avoid Focus on Responsibility : Recruiters are more interested in knowing your Achievement & Experience Details for current job profile.
Don’t lie : or at least Lie what you can prove right. I suggestion would be sooner or later, your lie will be out and you will be in big trouble, you never know what recruiter is looking for ?
Keep it short- The length of your resume should be enough to cover all important information which expresses your strength as a candidate, and still be short and attractive.
Double check - Spelling and grammar tools do not catch all mistakes, and can be embarrassing for any professional. Ensure that someone else also reviews your work !
Don’t be Tech Savvy – It might be possible, you have prepared your resume using latest Office 2010 functions & the recruiter’s HR department is still using Office 97. Make it compatible with all the versions of the technology.
Customize : It might be the case, your resume do not fit or says anything about the job opening you have applied for. Customize the resume to fit the need of job.
Social Connection : You can in 21st Century, do link your social profile in your resume, recruiters or at-least the HR Manager would like to visit your profile on Facebook, Twitter to know more about you.
Absence of Contact information : Double check your contact information like phone number, mobile number & email address. Most importantly, avoid emails like sexylady@gmail.com
Last but not least Create you prefect image on all the social sites you are on, you would don’t like to show your drunk picture on your profile or that testimonial proclaiming that you are the laziest person on the campus?

Bonus Tip ;

If you have submitted your resume to the various job sites, don’t forget to update the same as most of the recruiters don’t even look at the detail resume, if your summary on the job site is outdated. Moreover, Job sites themselves claim that most update resume comes first in their search for specific job profile.
