Check & Authenticate Mobile IMEI 15 Digit Number

As per the latest press release from the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India, all the Mobile without / Non Authenticated IMEI 15 Digit Number (China Made) would be banned from 1st December, 2009. As per the NDTV, there are nearly 2 crore china made mobile current working on different operate within India. Reason for a ban on mobiles without IMEI number is that they are not able to track or found via operator’s system when stolen, lost, etc., which might be used for some terrorist activities.

What is IMEI Number ?

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is unique 15 digit identification number of the Mobile Handset. It is like the registration number of your vehicle. check the IMEI no of the Mobile Handset by pressing *#06#. With the help of IMEI number one can identify the make and model of the handset.

How to Authenticate / Verify the IMEI Number ?

To verify the IMEI number one can send a message “IMEI <15 digit IMEI No.> to 53232 or Visit the Global IMEI Number Identification Site, Just provide your 15 digit IMEI Number on the site. All mobile phones are assigned a unique 15 digit IMEI code upon production. Below you can check all known information regarding manufacturer, model type, and country of approval of a handset.

What if you have lost your Mobile ?

You can block your IMEI number via registoring a FIR to police & submitting the same to your service provider to block your IMEI Number. As per a notice on the website of Indian Cellular Association and a downloadable letter http://www.ica-ind.org/images/Ica-Letter.pdf all the mobiles without IMEI 15 digit numbers are blocked as on 1st Dec, 2009. All Indian mobile operators will block these mobile phones from 12.00 PM onwards and the phone will receive no network coverage.
